Rocky Mountain Home

columbine
High up in the Rockies where the Columbine all grow,
stands a little cabin, amidst the ice and snow,
a beacon in the starlight, it’s windows all aglow.

This is where my home is, this is what I see,
when I close my eyes this is where I long to be.

Mom is in the kitchen holding baby Ray.
Dad sits in his rocker resting from the day.

How I long to be there sitting by the fire.
Colorado calls me, fills me with desire.

How did I end up here in this rowdy, bawdy town?
Everything is dirty, the women bring me down.
If it wasn’t for the money, I’d go home today.
My mother told me not to go, I had to have my way.

How I long to be there sitting by the fire.
Colorado calls me, fills me with desire.

I work down at the stables now, my money didn’t last,
I laid it on the table, it disappeared real fast.

Get yourself together boy and find a way back West.
This river port is not your sort, I guess Mom did know best.

I dream of snow capped mountains, rivers running wild.
Of bright blue skies at sunrise and breezes soft and mild.

How I long to be there sitting by the fire.
Colorado calls me, fills me with desire.
